Membership of our main athletics club starts at age 10.
Secondary school children and young adults can join the club directly, but primary school children will start in our RJT Club and then progress to the main club.
The main athletics club training sessions are Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings at Craigswood Sports Centre, Livingston, and training groups are available for all abilities.
Coaching Structure
There are five stages in our coaching structure, providing athletes with a progressive pathway from "playground to podium".
At the start of the pathway, the focus is on multi-event skills development. Athletes are encouraged to try a variety of events, covering both track and field, with the emphasis on developing skills and improving fitness, in a fun and supportive environment. This prepares athletes for competing in a range of athletics events at the various competitions we offer.
At this stage in the pathway, one club training session per week is usually sufficient, so that children can also take part in other sports which will benefit their all-round development.
As athletes progress through the pathway, the approach becomes more event specific, with athletes starting to specialise in a particular set of events.
At this stage, we have event specific groups available for sprints, endurance, jumps, throws, hurdles and combined events. Athletes would usually commit to training at least twice per week, in addition to competing regularly.
Joining
Primary School
Primary school children, from P2, will start in our Run + Jump + Throw Club, and will progress to the main athletics club at the appropriate stage of their development.
Run + Jump + Throw Club
Secondary School
Secondary school children can register for a trial of our training sessions.
The taster sessions give potential members a chance to find out about the club, sample the training and sometimes even take part in a competition, before committing to full club membership.
After completing the registration form, we will allocate you to an appropriate group for your taster, and confirm a start date.
