Youth Development League Results

Four athletes from our club represented Team Forth Valley at the final round of the Youth Development League in Sheffield on Sunday 28th July.

They met the team at Grangemouth Stadium on the Saturday and travelled by coach to their overnight stop in Leeds.

After eating dinner, sorting out the teamsheets and going for a quick ten minute jog, the athletes went to bed so they would be fresh for competing the next day.

However they did not sleep quite as well as they'd hoped!

After a nutritious, athlete's breakfast (bacon, eggs and sausage) the team got back on the bus to travel to the track.

Despite tiredness the athletes all performed well.

Highlights from the match included a 2nd place finish in the A race, new personal best and club record of 49.05 for Shawn Wright in the 400m. Shawn also won the B Triple Jump with 11.95m.

In the 800m races Andrew Mitchell finished 3rd in the A race in a (then) personal best of 2:03.96. Calum McLean narrowly missed his 800m PB, finishing 5th in the U17 race.

Grant Kirkwood produced some good performances in the throws, with this being his first competition using U20 weight implements. He threw 30.10m in the Javelin and 20.80m in the Discus, placing him 5th and 6th in the A events respectively. Grant also ran 26.54 in the 200m, finishing 6th in the B race.

Andrew and Shawn were part of the 4x400m relay team, with Andrew on 3rd leg and Shawn on 4th. They both produced good runs to claw the team back into 3rd place.

Well done to everyone that took part!
