Volunteers - How Can You Help?

 10 November 2013

With the AGM approaching, this is a good time to think about what you can do to help the club...

The existence and success of the club is thanks to the volunteers (coaches, senior athletes, officials and parents) who give up their time to help on training nights, at competitions, at club events and with various administrative duties.

The club have a continuous requirement for more volunteers.

While experience in athletics is useful for some roles, it is by no means essential, and many different roles are available which use a variety of skills and with varying commitment levels to suit everyone.

The list below highlights the main roles in which the club currently required assistance:

QUALIFIED COACHES

While we have a rota for occasional help, you might be interested in helping with coaching more regularly (at least once per month) and becoming a qualified coach?

We would pair you with a more experienced coach to aid your coaching confidence and development. Development is paced by you - we would not ask you to do anything you're not comfortable with.

You could do the "assistant coach" qualification and remain as an assistant, or work towards the full "coach" qualification and eventually work with your own group. All training costs are paid by the club.

QUALIFIED OFFICIALS

Every competition requires a large group of officials. If you were interested in becoming a qualified official and could commit to officiating regularly at club events, there is the option to attend a training course at the end of the year.

As you attend more competitions and gain more experience, you could progress up the officiating ranks. Again, all training costs are paid by the club.

RESULTS REPORTER

The club are always looking for more people to write reports for the club website, email newsletter and the local press about the athletes performances at competitions.

This helps raise the profile of the club and provide recognition of the club and athletes achievements.

No regular commitment is required, submitting just one or two reports a year is better than none, and this role could be done by athletes too.
