2018 Medley Relay Review

 22 September 2018

The traditional Medley Relay race that ended our 2018 Club Championships was one of the most exciting races in recent years with 11 teams and 55 athletes taking part.

Teams were drawn randomly at the end of the last Wednesday night training session, with mixed age group teams of 5 athletes running a 400m, 300m, 2x 200m and 100m, and a gift voucher for the winning team.

Aidan Brady of the "Livi Lions" got his team off to a strong start in the 400m leg, closely followed by Ricky Arthurs of the imaginatively named "Team 10" with Fraser Morris of the "Salmon Nibbles", Jonathan Kennedy of the "Super 7s" and Lewis MacIver of "The Team of All Teams" finishing their leg close together to complete the top 5.

In the 300m leg, Ally White of "Team 10" caught Eilidh Brown of the "Livi Lions" to move his team into 1st position, while Matthew Power of "The Team of All Teams" quickly moved passed Sam Jones of the "Salmon Nibbles" and Aidan McKeown of the "Super 7s" to consolidate 3rd place.

The positions changed again over the first 200m leg, with a strong run from Ella Watson of "The Team of All Teams" moving her team from 3rd to 1st and Erin Cameron of the "Livi Lions" catching Jay Turnbull of "Team 10" to hold 2nd place for her team.

In the final 200m leg, Iona McDonald of "The Team of All Teams" pulled away from Sophie Ure of the "Livi Lions" to hand over to Alex Thomson with a 20m lead.

Alex, the U11 Boys 80m club record holder, extended the lead further by storming down the home straight to give "The Team of All Teams" the win by almost 40m.

Well done to all the athletes who competed!
