Forth Valley League Match 1 Review
Twenty two of the club's u11, u13 and u15 athletes headed to Pitreavie Stadium, Dunfermline, last Wednesday
night for round 1 of the Forth Valley League Division Two. The match was originally scheduled to be at Livingston on the Thursday night, but was moved due to the ongoing building work at
Craigswood Sports Centre.
The club competed in Division One last season, but were relegated to Division Two after the final match results moved us from 4th place down to 5th
place. The goal this season is for promotion back to Division One, and the athletes got the club off to a great start.
There were too many notable performances to mention,
but highlights included the four "A" string winners; Gemma Humerstone, who won the under 11 girls 100m and 800m, with times of 16.5 and 3:09.3, in what was her first time competing in
those events for the club; Nikisha Wright, who won the under 13 girls 100m in 14.2; and Robbie Nairn, who won the under 13 boys 100m in 14.4.
Five athletes also achieved
personal bests at Pitreavie. In the under 11 boys 800m, Fraser McLean ran 3:05.03, taking over 6 seconds off his previous best effort. In the under 13 girls events, Morna Horn and Chloe
French helped fill the 800m to get the club valuable points, with both gaining personal bests. Morna knocked 27 seconds off her personal best with a time of 3:11.8, while Chloe took over 20
seconds off her personal best with a time of 3:16.7. In the under 15 boys shot putt, Ruaridh McCusker had a personal best throw of 6.30m, adding 29cm to the PB set last year in the Forth
Valley Final, while in the under 15 boys 100m, Shawn Wright ran a personal best time of 13.6, despite being impeded by a wild dog! The race was re-run, with Shawn running 13.6 again to give
him a 2nd place finish.
There were also two new athletes competing for the club for the first time on Wednesday night; well done to Scott Miller (under 15 boys) and Megan
Brown (under 13 girls).
The club won the match overall, finishing first with 327 points. Musselburgh and Dunbar were close behind, with 317.5 points and 310 points
respectively, so we'll need a strong team out in two weeks time to keep the promotion goal on track!
