Club Together Officer Update

 3 April 2014

February saw a return of a Run, Jump and Throw Club. This is a session aimed at 7 and 8 year olds as a foundation of athletics, preparing them for when they turn old enough to join the club. The first block was very successful and I hope to continue to see this group developing along with future Run, Jump and Throw groups to be set up across Livingston.

Over the past few months I have secured a £2,000 grant from the council to help cover the cost of our new Monday night sessions. This is the first time that the club has introduced an additional club night. The grant will be very helpful whilst we establish this new training night. An extra night was needed in order cater for new members and provide additional opportunities for existing members.

I have also been working closely with the local schools. St Margaret's Academy and Deans Community High School saw an international athlete visit, Freya Ross, during their preparation for the Scottish Giant Heptathlon. We look to welcome the athletes from these schools to our next open graded event.

Finally I have been working on coach and volunteer development. We held a coach workshop at Letham Primary at the start of March which saw coaches and helpers from across the club develop their skills. I am also pleased to announce that Ian Hardacre, Rebecca Nagle, Danny Nicoll, Marion Fairley, Karen McAlear and Ewan Calvert all successfully completed their Assistant Coach Award at the start of this year. To add to this, Stephen Brady, Colin Smith, Billy Herron, and Judith Hargreaves completed the Level 2 Field Official course recently.
