Scottish National Age Group Championships

Ten Livingston athletes were in action at Grangemouth over the weekend, competing in wet and windy conditions in the Scottish National Age Group Championships, with two club athletes winning gold medals to become Scottish Champions!

In the under 14 girls events on Saturday, there were strong performances from all four of the club's entrants in the sprint events. Three of the girls lined up in the 100m heats; Hazel Shanley (heat 1, 3rd, 14.10), Chloe McAlear (heat 4, 4th, 14.14) and Robyn Fairley (heat 5, 4th, 14.19); with Hazel qualifying for the B final in which she finished 5th in 14.21.

In the u14g 200m heats, Taygan Henry (heat 2, 5th, 29.85) set a new personal best while Robyn Fairley (heat 1, 3rd, 28.99) and Chloe McAlear (heat 2, 2nd, 29.68) qualified for the B final in which Robyn finished 5th and Chloe was 7th.

Robyn also threw 5.29m in the u14g shot putt and Taygan jumped 4.04m in the long jump.

In the u18 mens 800m, Andrew Mitchell was 5th in heat 2 with a personal best of 2:07.82 and Jake Thomas was 3rd in heat 3 in 2:04.17 which secured him a place in the final. Jake finished 5th in the final in 2:02.94. Andrew was also 5th in the u18 long jump with 5.38m.

Fraser McLean was the only u14 boy in action. Fraser was 7th in his 800m heat with a time of 3:02.44 and jumped 3.72m in the long jump.

The u16 and u20 events took place on Sunday. In the u16 boys 100m, Grant Kirkwood was 7th in heat 3 with a time of 13.18. Grant also jumped 1.45m in the high jump to finish 6th.

In the u16 boys shot putt, Robbie Nairn picked up a gold medal with a massive throw of 15.17m, almost 1m ahead of second place.

And in the u20 mens 400m, Shawn Wright ran a commanding race with his time of 50.72 also securing a gold medal!!
