Athletes Show Their National Class at Grangemouth

Reward was sought in the form of medals and personal best performances by the athletes of Livingston and District Amateur Athletics Club who competed at the Scottish National Championships last weekend.

The hard work and effort after years of training reaped most benefit for the sprinters of the club at the Grangemouth event.

Twelve-year-old Kirsty Hunter of Uphall added the 100m title to her already impressive collection, winning easily in a new personal best time of 13.39.

This was followed by the 200m title in a time of 27.51 and then a bronze medal in the High Jump with a leap of 1.35m.

Fourteen-year-old Louise Crilly, returned from international duty in Ireland to add the Scottish 100m title to her Scottish Schools title with a Personal best time of 12.61. She then secured the Silver medal in the 200m with another personal best time of 25.87.

Sixteen-year-old Rosanna Mooney achieved a bronze medal in the 800m, missing the Silver medal by less than half a second when she ran 2:18.17.

Many of the other club athletes who participated succeeded in producing faster times and greater distances in their chosen events.

Under 15 Girls: Louise Crilly, 100m Final, 1st ­ 12.61 (PB) Gold; 200m Final, 2nd - 25.87 (PB) Silver; Lauren Prentice 100m Heat 5th 13.82, High Jump 5th 1.40m; Keri MacKenzie, 80m Heat 3rd 13.00; Semi Final 8th 13.43; 200m Heat, 8th - 29.03; Carol Simpson, 100m Heat, 6th - 14.11; Kellie Gallon, Discus, 11th - 16.38m; Javelin, 19th ­ 12.09m.

Under 15 Boys: Steven Folek, 100m Heat, 7th - 13.27; David Mcllwraith, 1500m Heat, 10th - 4:58.7 (PB).

Under 17 Boys: Paul Mathieson, High Jump, 4th - 1.65m.

Under 17 Girls: Rosanna Mooney, 800m Final, 3rd - 2:16.74 Bronze; 1500m Final, 5th ­ 4:52.1; Kirsty Oliver, 300m Heat, 5th - 44.67; Carrie-Anne Tugman, 300m Heat, 2nd ­ 44.32; Linsay Nicoll, 800m Heat, 9th - 2:54.50.

Under 20 Women: Keri Nicoll, 400m Final, 5th - 63.91.

Under 20 Men: Grant Forrester, Javelin, 4th - 41.75m (PB); 800m Final, 8th - 2:04.10; Darren Tang, 400m Final, 7th - 54.43.
