Indoor Athletes do Themselves Proud

Livingston and District athletes marked the final meeting of the Scotti h Athletics Indoor League with a flurry of personal bests and club records.

Over the three meetings, athletes notched up an impressive 54 personal bests and three club records for the season.

Among the achievements, under 13 boy Ewan Ballantyne managed the 60m hurdles in 11.66 while Shawn Wright (U20 men) managed 1.70m in the high jump, and Robbie Nairn (U17 men) threw the shot put 13.99m.

The competitions, held at the Kelvin Hall International Arena in Glasgow, saw many athletes competing for the club for the first time and resulted in promising performances for the forthcoming summer season.

As the indoor season approaches it's climax, a group of athletes participated in the Scottish National Indoor Open Meeting last Saturday, also held at the Klevin Hall Arena in Glasgow.

Shawn Wright's time of 52.80 in the 400m and triple jump distances of 12.19m both handed him personal bests. The same can be said for Chloe McAlear for her time of 9.32 in the 60m and 31.10 in the 200m
.
Scott Henderson managed 7.33 in the 60m, Robbie Nairn threw an impressive shot put of 15m and Andrew Mitchell ran the 200m in 26.84, which all led to improved personal bests. Excellent performances were also given by Alistair Dalgleish for his 53.12 time in the 400m and Robyn McDowall's 72.95 in the same event.

Taygan Henry managed 31.07 in the 200m, 1.35m in the high jump and 3.78m in the long jump. Chloe McAlear's shot put of 6.05m, Andrew Mitchell's 60.04 in the 400m and Shawn Wright's 5.60m in the long jump will all give them confidence as they prepare for the National Championships in February.

The club also enjoyed a fantastic turnout of Livingston athletes for the third and final round of the East District Cross Country League which took place in parkland north of Broxburn Academy with distances ranging from approximately 1.8K for the under 11s up to 9K for the senior men.

In the under 11 girls race, Sarah Calvert put in an outstanding performance to win the race in a time of 7:31. Holly White and Helena Cutajar, representing the club for the first time at cross country, finished 33rd and 34th with times of 10:21 and 10:40. Overall the under 11 girls were sixth out of 14 teams on the day, and seventh out of 18 teams for the season.

Alastair Marshall was 25th in the under 11 boys race, completing the course in 8:29 while Finlay Cook, making his cross country debut was 37th in 8:54.

For the second time this season, there was a full under 13 girls team. In the 2.5K race, Louisa Marshall was 22nd in 11:11, Taygan Henry was 25th in 11:36 and Hannah Mairs was 26th in 11:39. In the team competition, the girls finished fifth out of 17 teams on the day and seventh out of 19 teams for the season.

The under 13 boys were also running the same 2.5K course. Nathan Cambell was 37th in a time of 10:56 and Fraser McLean was 45th in 11:49.

In the under 15 boys race, Andrew Mitchell made his club cross country debit, completing the 4K course in 16:03 to finish 20th. Calum McLean was 37th in 20:04 and Alastair White was 38th in 20:41. The boys were placed fifth out of 17 teams.

In the under 17 mens race, Ryan White was 22nd with a time of 29:22 for the two lap 6K course.

Yvonne Crilly completed the same course in 25:05, which placed her 28th overall and 9th master.

In the senior men's race, covering a distance of 9K over three laps, Steve Thomson was 126th overall and 43rd master with a time of 36:47.
