Livingston Athletic Club Livingston Athletic Club

CSSAL Match 2 Review

 8 June 2009

A fortnight ago, at Wishaw Sports Centre, the club had thirty three athletes competing in round two of the Central & South of Scotland Athletics League. Thankfully there was no repeat of our last league match at Wishaw in 2007 when it rained non-stop for the entire day!

With slightly more athletes competing compared to round one, the Livingston athletes filled 74 individual events, with a staggering 40 A/B wins and 26 personal bests.

In the under 11 girls 800m, Taygan Henry ran a personal best for the third competition in a row, with a time of 3:04.3 giving her a "B" string win, finishing narrowly behind Gemma Hummerstone who won the "A" string. In the boys 800m, Fraser McLean also achieved a personal best with his time of 2:58.8.

The under 13 girls were on a top form with a plethora of personal bests. In the 200m, Ella McFarlane won the "A" string with a personal best of 30.0, while Hayley Donaldson won the "B" string in a personal best time of 32.2. Nikisha Wright competed in her first outdoor 800m since 2007, and knocked 8 seconds off her personal best to win the "A" string race with a time of 2:49.1. Nikisha achieved a second personal best in the 70m hurdles with a time of 13.5, while Hayley Donaldson managed a personal best in the high jump with a height of 1.15m.

In the under 13 girls discus, Megan Laing threw 18.11m to add almost 6m to her personal best and comfortably win the "A" string competition. Megan's throw of 18.11m is also a new club u13g record, beating the previous record of 16.42m set in 1989!

Scott Malcolm was the only under 13 boy to get any personal bests, and he managed two, throwing 9.65m in the discus, and running 5:52.5 in the 1500m to finish 3rd in the "A" string race. Robbie Nairn was also competing in the discus, where he annihilated the field with a debut performance of 17.20m.

In the under 15 girls events, Mhairi Horn had a personal best in the 200m, beating her previous best by almost a second with a time of 31.8. Isla Bruce managed a personal best in the high jump, jumping 1.15m; while in the shot putt, Anna McPhillips threw a personal best of 5.94m to finish 2nd in the "A" string event.

The under 15 boys were another age group on top form. In the 200m, Scott Miller finished 2nd in the "A" string with a personal best of 26.7, while Shawn Wright managed a personal best and a "B" string win with his time of 26.3. In the shot putt, Shawn won the "B" string with a personal best of 6.61m, and then later went on to jump 5.04m, winning the "A" string long jump and achieving his third personal best of the day.

In the under 17 mens events, Stephen Watson ran a personal best in the 200m with a time of 27.2, while Daniel Fulton's time of 4:47.9 in the 1500m was also a personal best. Unfortunately there were no under 17 women competing due to a combination of school trips and DoE expeditions.

Well done to under 11 girl Latasha Kirimbai who was competing for the club for the first time, and well done also to all the senior athletes who got personal bests and/or helped fill events.

Congratulations to the following athletes who won "Athlete of the Match" awards:

Male Winner - Shawn Wright
Male Runner-Up - Elliot Stanton

Female Winner - Ella McFarlane
Female Runner-Up - Eileen Hulse
