Level 1 Officials Courses - Sunday 30 April

 23 April 2017

We're lucky to have some great Technical Officials at Livingston, but it's vital for the sport that we also recruit and develop new officials.

The next UKA Level 1 officials training courses are being held by scottishathletics at Craigswood Sports Centre on Sunday 30 April.

If you've been helping the Technical Officials at club events, why not take the next step and become a qualified official?

At Level 1 you can choose to specialise in a single discipline as either a Track Judge or Field Judge. This part of the course takes place in the morning, with the Health & Safety workshop in the afternoon.

Topics Covered
  • Qualities & skills needed to be a good official
  • Equipment required for your chosen discipline
  • Communicating with athletes and other officials
  • Positioning yourself for best viewing
  • How to follow a duty sheet
  • Understanding signs & signals
  • How to interpret & apply the rules
  • Ensuring safety and reporting concerns
UKA Level 1 Official Requirements
  • Attend UKA Level 1 Track or Field course (Sun 30 April, 9.30 am - 2.00 pm)
  • Attend UKA Health & Safety course (Sun 30 April, 2.30 pm - 4.00 pm)
  • Officiate at 4 competitions (this can be backdated to competitions you have already attended)
  • Complete a PVG application form (via the club's welfare officer)
Once you have completed all of the above, you then need to apply to scottishathletics who will issue your UKA Officials licence.

Last at year at club competitions, over 50 parents helped the Technical Officials during the season, but it would be great if a few more of those helpers were qualified.

A minimum number of qualified officials are needed at competitions to meet the requirements of the UKA rules and our scottishathletics permit, and ensure that the competition results will be accepted by Power of 10.

The club also get extra points at league matches for supplying qualified officials. This can be the difference between promotion and relegation.
