Team

The club are part of a composite team, Team Forth Valley, that compete in the UK Youth Development League for U17 and U20 athletes.

The composite team also includes athletes from Central AC, Falkirk Victoria Harriers and Team East Lothian.

League

Last season the UK Youth Development League provided competition for over 300 teams across almost 200 fixtures.

Team Forth Valley compete in the UK Youth Development League UAG (Upper Age Group) for U17 and U20 athletes, and are in the Premier East (South) division of the league's North region.

After the team's success last season, the team were promoted from the East 1 division to a restructured Premier division.

Age Groups

The league is for male and female Under 17 and Under 20 athletes.

U17: Born 01/09/2000 - 31/08/2002
U20: Born 01/01/1998 - 31/08/2000

Dates

There are four matches during the summer, with all matches in England. The dates and venues for 2017 are:
  • Sun 30 April - Sheffield
  • Sun 28 May - Leeds
  • Sun 25 June - Doncaster
  • Sun 23 July - Sheffield or Middlesbrough
The matches start at 10.15 am and finish at approximately 6.00 pm.

There are also CSSAL matches on Sunday 28 May and Sunday 25 June.

Transport / Accommodation

Athletes travel to all the matches in the team bus, which usually leaves Grangemouth Stadium at 12.30 pm on Saturday, with athletes staying overnight in a hotel. Hotel details will be available nearer the time.

The team travel back home after the match finishes, returning to Grangemouth Stadium at about 11.30 pm.

Costs

Athletes pay £40 per match which goes towards the cost of transport, accommodation, dinner on Saturday night and breakfast on Sunday morning.

The club pay the remainder of these costs, and all athletes competing in this league will be expected to get involved with some fund raising activities during the summer to help cover the cost of participation in the league.

Meals

The team organise dinner on the first night and breakfast on the morning of the match.

Athletes should organise other meals, lunch and dinner on the match day, themselves. As it's not always possible to buy food locally before the match, and not all venues have catering facilities, athletes should come prepared with plenty of drinks and healthy snacks.

Dinner on Sunday night is usually at a service station on the journey home.

Availability

Athletes who are interested in competing in the YDL this season should contact Alistair, by Friday 7 April, with details of your availability for the 4 dates above and details of your preferred events.

The Power of 10 entry standards (available below) are a useful guide to the minimum standard required to be considered for seleciton.

For athletes who are selected, the £40 match fee will be collected by direct debit 2 weeks before the match, when the team selection is confirmed and the hotel bookings are finalised. The match fee is non-refundable if your availability then changes prior to the match.

Athletes representing the club in the league are expected to give 100% effort at all times, and co-operate fully, respecting all requests and decisions made by the team managers and officials.

Selection

The team managers will select events based on recent performances, using the Power of 10 rankings as a guide to compare athletes from all the clubs involved in the team.

The team managers will choose the strongest possible team, so you may not always be selected for your favourite events.

You may also asked on the day to participate in an additional event if there are gaps in the team due to injury or illness, as the points scoring system means that it's important that there are competitors in all events at a match.

The team selections are usually confirmed 2 weeks before the match.

Kit

All athletes competing for Team Forth Valley are expected to purchase a team vest. These are available to purchase on the bus for £15. There is also a limited stock of crop tops for £20.

Team hoodies are also available to purchase for £20.
