COACHING

Club Coaches

To function as a club we need a pool of committed and qualified coaches. All the club’s coaches have up-to-date UK Athletics coaching licenses, having passed the relevant coaching courses and been vetted by Disclosure Scotland.

The coaches, who all work on a volunteer basis, are responsible for delivering club training sessions and looking after athletes at competitions.

Coach Development

The club is committed to improving the standard of its coaching and fully supports coaches and parent helpers who wish to progress through the athletics coaching qualifications. These are gained by attending the UK Athletics training courses that are run by Scottish Athletics.

Coaches and parent helpers are actively encouraged to attend courses, workshops, development days and regional and national squad training sessions as appropriate.

To support coach development, course fees are funded by the club in partnership with West Lothian Council.

Coach/helper development is paced by the individual – you will not be asked to do something you do not feel comfortable with. We aim to have coaches/helpers work with more experienced coaches to aid their coaching confidence and development.
